Did Anyone Say Weimer Hall?

Hello beautiful people,

     As this current semester comes to a quickly approaching end, I can't help but to realize I have ONE final semester to go until graduation. My time thus far at the University of Florida has truly been some of the best years of my life. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the kindest, most intelligent people in the world right on my campus!  

     As you all know, I am majoring in Telecommunications at the College of Journalism and I have learned so much while being here. I have taken classes ranging from Investigative reporting all the way to Law of Mass Communications, learning all there is to know about journalism and television. A few of my classes have actually required that I spend about 6-8 hours in the newsroom a week. During these required shifts I would usually have to find a story, pitch, shoot, and edit the story in order for it to air on WUFT Channel 5, a local station in Gainesville. I have also had the pleasure of creating content for Florida's 89.1 WUFT-FM station that is also located right on campus in the journalism school. I have also spent a great majority of my time at the Center for Media Innovation and Research (CMIR) where I connected with journalism students of all kinds with passions in various communication fields. The college of Journalism at UF has truly provided me with some of the greatest opportunities, and I will always be thankful for my time there. 

     I hope to close out my final semester at UF with nothing but love, peace, and a whole lot of ambition. UF has undoubtedly prepared me for the real world and I can't wait to get out there!

"The Tipping Point" Review

After reading Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point, I felt as if I gained a greater understanding of change and the ways in which it occurs. This book explained multiple epidemics to me in a very clear and concise way.  For starters, I must add that the title of this book completely through me off. I was expecting info on anger management and ways to not get to that "tipping point" but to my surprise this book was about something completely different. 

One of the first lessons I learned while reading The Tipping point, was how quickly and effectively knowledge is passed on. The book goes into detail on how social epidemics happen and why they happen. In the book Gladwell mentions the three prominent ways to understanding social epidemics. So, for starters you have the people who actually start the epidemics, the content of the epidemic, and lastly the environment or location at which the epidemic occurs. 

I also learned that in order for an idea to spread it MUST reach a tipping point, or as I like to call it: the point of no return. It's important to note that getting something to that "point of no return" takes not only you sharing it, but sharing it with people who have good followings. After an idea, video, photo or tweet hits its tipping point it takes off like a rocket and becomes readily available for any and everyone to see. As bizarre as this may sound, it's true, and it happens millions of times a day. Most of the videos you see on your twitter, Facebook and Instagram are videos or pictures that have gone viral. Some of the viral content you see is completely planned to the T and other content went viral accidentally or without any effort.


Next up, you have three types of people that turn ideas into epidemics. You have your connectors, salesmen, and mavens. Connectors are individuals who are strongly connected on social media sites; meaning they have large amounts of followers or "connections". Connectors are people that can often times easily make a post go viral simply by posting it one time. Of course the content of whatever they're posting is taking into account, but if a good connector and great content is paired you have content that will most likely go viral.

Then you have your salesmen. Salesmen are simply good at selling content! (Not literally of course). But Salesmen can get material or ideas to their tipping points simply by continuous promotions or bragging of the idea.

Lastly, there is the Maven. Mavens are known for their ability to accumulate knowledge. Mavens have the gift of knowing all there is to know about whatever they are promoting and they also know exactly who to "Sell" it to.

All in all, I feel that I truly did learn a great deal from this book. Gladwell's writing style was also very concise and to the point, which made for an enjoyable read.

Any Recommendations?

Hello beauties, 

     So this week I have the pleasure of showing off a few blogs from some really cool people. While my blog is all about graduating and moving from one chapter to the next, my friends' have blogs on completely different, but insanely cool topics! Below I will be listing different types of blogs that I think you guys would enjoy.

     For starters if you are into all things fashion and fitness you show check out Strut Confidently! This blog is my favorite place to go when I am interested in giving myself some me time. The great mind behind this blog is Ms. Alexus Davila. Go ahead and check out her impressive resume while your on her page!

     Next up is a blog by my friend, Isabella Pico. Isabella's blog is all about local gems in Gainesville, Florida. Isabella's blog focuses on all the great things the city of Gainesville has to offer. In her blog you'll see posts about great restaurants,museums, and places that are just plain ol' cool.

Lastly, there is Stephanie Hall. Stephanie's blog is VERY similar to mine, even down to it's name: The Chronicles of Entering the Real World. Stephanie is a classmate of mine, but you all should check out her blog and resume if you ever need some extra real world advice and preparation!

A little Background!

Hello hello!

     So I wanted to give you guys a little background on me and a teeny piece of my life thus far...enjoy!
 I was born in San Diego, California on December 2^nd in 1996 and grew up in Tampa, Florida. I have one sister and 4 brothers. I am currently a Junior at the University of Florida studying Telecommunications with a minor in African-American studies. I graduated from Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School with a 6.52 GPA in the class of 2015. Along with graduating in the top 10% of my class, I also managed to earn my Associates degree in Mass communications.

I’m a member of multiple clubs and organizations at the University of Florida. I’m also an active member in the National Association of Broadcasters and the National Association of Black journalists.

I have interned for WUFT Channel 8 and Vistra Communications. Lastly, my ultimate goal is to become an E! News Correspondent and digital content creator.

Trying Something New!

What's up lovely people!

       Just the other day my boyfriend and I went and got tacos from this cozy little taco spot in the downtown area of where we live. GUYS YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW GOOD THESE TACOS WERE.  These tacos had to be some of the best tacos i've ever had. I promise I'm not exaggerating. I went from only liking like one Mexican cuisine restaurant in town, to completely switching to this one being my fav.  Now, I don't know if you all know or not...but i'm a huge Mexican food fanatic. Most of my dad's family is from New Mexico, so I have a deep love for the food and because of this I know authentic Mexican food when I taste it. 

To be completely honest this place looked a little skeptical, but me being me, I didn't mind. I know some of the best food comes from the most unexpected places. 

So, the next time you are driving through your town try a restaurant you would usually pass up, tell me how it goes!

Not Missing My Ship: Part 2

Hello everyone!

       So last week was spring break and I had the time of my life! Friends, random people, the open sea, and tons of fun. I can't begin to explain the amount of fun I had. Coming back to school assignments, tests, and quizzes has honestly been super difficult, but I'm slowly finding my way back to reality. 

Beyond trying to get back on track with school and work I have been trying my very best to think up how I could possibly live my best life. I know that sounds really dramatic and kind of obvious, but I really want to know. I mean I graduate in like a semester and a half, and I have no clue what I want to do. A part of me wants to travel like Adventurous Kate, 'The Solo Female Traveler': Kate's Blog Page!

Then another part of me wants to thrive in my career, like really thrive. I want the love, life, family, career, and children. I truly want it all! And as I'm typing I realize....I can. I can have it all. I guess to sum this up I really should somehow focus on all the important areas of my life, like really zone in on all the beautiful things I want out of life; and I don't mean the material things.

Why Not Travel?

Hi all,

       So today I’m heading to Dallas, Texas to spend the weekend with my childhood best friend. I’m writing this as I wait for my flight to take off. I don’t think I’ve ever told you guys, but I absolutely love airports. Maybe it’s all he excitement that comes from people leaving and starting anew, or maybe it’s all the love from travelers and their loved ones. I just love it. Don’t get me wrong flying can get very tiring very quick, but when I do fly I enjoy it. 

With this blog being about graduating college and moving on to new chapters I thought a blog on the top 3 reasons to travel would be fun. After I graduate I plan to travel as well. In all honesty why not? At this point in my life I have nothing to lose. Enjoy😊

1. If not now, then when?           The subhead says it all. But seriously think about that. If you don’t go now when will you? You’ll always have bills to pay, so staying because you want to make sure you have all the money in the world will constantly have you pushing back your travels. I understand wanting to save to make sure you are financially stable at home before you go, but try to set a goal for that and go as soon as you reach it! Another thing, today you are as young as you’ll ever be. Remember this the next time you push off a trip out fear or maybe even anxiety. These are the days I’ll be looking back on one day. Create lasting memories!❤️

2.  It opens your mind and eyes

        -After traveling ANYWHERE different from what you’re used to, you gain a deeper love and appreciation for the world and people around you. When you are constantly running through your weekly schedule you become numb to all the beauty that occurs around you on the everyday basis, Travel really helps to bring you back to life.

3. You’ll find joy in places you never imagined

       -Travel truly does change you. Go out there and try new things and while you’re out there you’re bound to meet new people!
