Get Out & Enjoy Yourself

Hi everyone! I hope all is well.

Today I just want to touch on the importance of relaxing and taking a breather every now and again. Being in my last two semesters as an undergrad definitely has me feeling extra anxious all the time, but I still find time to get out and enjoy myself with good people.

Just last year I attended my university's annual SoulFest, a multicultural dance competition, and I honestly had the time of my life. I never expected to like each of the showcases as much as I did! Looking back on the videos I took of myself at the event last year reminded me of why it's so imperative that I stay adventures and open-minded in all that I do. The thought of Graduation can definitely cast a weird shadow over a person if they allow it to drive the entirety of their final year. Enjoy your last few months of college! And remember EVERYONE has to graduate at one point....you're just already at that point.

Love you all,

This is Halloween, This is Halloween!

Hello friends,
I cannot believe halloween is in a few days! I know it seems like I am always reminiscing (I probably do) but honestly It seems like just yesterday my dormates and I were celebrating our first halloween away from home. How time flies. If I could get a buck for every time I've said that I'd be rich But, this past weekend I have been really trying to figure out what on Earth I will do during my last Halloween in college. Am I gonna throw some wild house party, or maybe drink wine and watch a horror movie with my close friends? Who knows. I do know that I MUST do something memorable. Something that stands out from the past few halloweens. Something that will make me look back later on in my life and say  "now that was a way to close out college." If any of my lovely readers has an suggestions I'm all ears! This year just has to be special.
Peace and love- Yazmyn Armoni

Working AND Going to School At The Same Time?

Here's an article from Georgetown University for those who are (like myself) trying to juggle going to school and working to support yourself.

Working & Going to School at the Same Time   Go to high school, go to college, and then go find a job. For generations of Americans, this path has been a rite of passage and the key to a successful career.

Yet according to a new report from Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce (CEW), this sequence is no longer the norm–and hasn’t been for more than 30 years. Today, most postsecondary students are working and going to school. In fact, about 40 percent of undergraduates and 76 percent of graduate students work at least 30 hours a week, noted Learning While Earning: The New Normal.
At Georgetown’s School of Continuing Studies (SCS), students can select between 11 Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree programs, three Executive MPS degree programs, and certificate programs in a variety of fields. All are designed to provide students with real-world skills they can apply in the workplace as well as a better understanding of the competencies they may need in the future.
“A job is more powerful as an education tool when it provides exploratory learning that supplements or complements a student’s field of study. This is crucial in graduate education, where fields of study are most tightly tied to careers,” notes the report.
“The nature of work requirements have changed over time,” said report coauthor Nicole Smith, a Research Professor and Chief Economist at CEW. “And that’s because the fast pace of technological growth has made it necessary for individuals to be always upscaling their skills and credentials.”

“We’re All Becoming Students Now”
Technology has not only changed traditional jobs, but it has also created entirely new job categories, said Beverly Magda, Associate Dean for Georgetown’s graduate programs in Technology Management and Systems Engineering Management.
“Many jobs that exist today may not have existed 10 or 20 years ago, such as jobs in healthcare IT, cybersecurity, big data, data analytics, and app and mobile development,” Magda said. “Companies want to hire well-rounded individuals who can understand the technical aspects of their job while also having leadership and management skills.”
With an increasing percentage of students working and going to school, the reverse is also true: more people are going back to school while holding down full- or part-time jobs.
“We’ve all become full-time students now simply because the pace of technology and the skills that are needed change so fast,” said Edwin Schmierer, Associate Dean of Georgetown’s Center for Continuing & Professional Education, which offers certificate programs as well as leadership development and coaching programs. “In today’s environment, you have to constantly reinvent yourself.”

#BEYONDTHESWAMP

Hey Guys!

So today I attended UF's Beyond The Swamp Fair, I'm actually still at the event, just thought I'd began writing for you guys!

So far I'm really enjoying myself! Believe me if any of you are approaching graduation, going to career and grab school fairs like these really do ease the anxiety of not knowing what you're going to do after graduation.

I do plan on going to grad school, probably not right after I get my bachelors but definitely within the two years after that. I'm looking to do a gap year full of internships and job experience before heading back to school to be completely honest.

Well check out some of my tweets from the event. I have videos and lots of photos included as well:)

So today I...

Hello all,

This week has already been super busy for me, but through student reporting, walks in the park with my boyfriend, art class, dinner, and a great workout I can definitely tell this week's gonna be a successful one. Love and Peace.
